Flute Player (Lynda with Pan Pipes) 1993 Bronze Height: 28 inches, with limestone stand 5 feet Edition of 9 (2 available) I made this sculpture soon after I had decided to commit myself fully to academic art. It was modelled extensively from life. I usually work four sessions a week, of three hours each, and this sculpture took about three months. I find that the time taken concentrates the power of the image. It gives back what was put into it. The theme is taken from Ancient Greece, a flute girl perhaps entertaining at a symposium. I was also inspired by a fresco in the opera house La Scalla, Milan. Everything in the Nineteenth century period expressed the same idea: opera, ballet, painting, sculpture, architecture. The music spoke to the ear and the art to the eye; it covered the walls and ceiling of the auditorium and public rooms. This sculpture in on exhibition at the Bruton Street Gallery, July and August. 2001.
